The Jeanerette Board of Aldermen voted to appoint Clerk Susan Colden as the interim tax collector following a special meeting held Wednesday night.
An executive session was held during the meeting where the board discussed the issue followed by a vote to put Colden in the temporary position.
The board also went into executive session to discuss further developments between the potential law enforcement agreement between the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office, Jeanerette Police Department and City of Jeanerette that has been in talks for more than a month.
The agenda item was tabled, however, due to Jeanerette Police Chief Dusty Vallot not being present.
The law enforcement agreement is intended to provide the Jeanerette Police Department with more officers while the department is facing a severe officer shortage. Mayor Pro Tem Tia Simmons said in December that the issue needed to be resolved as fast as possible, and several special meetings have been held since to hash out the agreement between the two law enforcement entities.
