IPSO confirms murder suspect arrested in New York

A spokesman for the Iberia Parish Sheriffs Office has confirmed that homicide suspect Kristian R. Broussard was arrested in Middletown, New York. 

Broussard is accused second-degree murder in the shooting death of Richard Southern, 38, on Jan. 4.

According to an IPSO press release, Broussard fled the scene with two women in the vehicle.  

According to a spokesman, the IPSO was notified of a shooting at a residence in the 4200 block of L. Theriot Road shortly after 8 p.m Friday. Deputies learned Southern had been shot and friends were transporting him to Abbeville General Hospital. 

Southern died shortly after arriving at the hospital. 

Detectives said Broussard and Southern apparently had an argument and that during the argument Broussard shot Southern several times with a handgun. 

Broussard was arrested in the Middletown, N.Y. area. The New York State Police, U.S. Marshals Office and local police were involved in the search for Broussard.
