Construction for a brand new town hall in Loreauville is set to start in November as the particulars of the project start to manifest.
The project was the result of last year’s legislative session, where local legislators helped to secure $1.5 million to completely revamp the main governmental building of the village in Iberia Parish.
Architect David Allain said the first phase of construction will be to remove the old town hall building in order to make way for a new-two story building that will have a mayor’s office, conference room, aldermen’s chambers and much more.
A contract for the construction was recently awarded to Minvielle Lumber Company of Abbeville. Allain estimated that the project is expected to be completed in 12 to 18 months.
Allain said in March that the design of the new building will blend the historical architecture of the region. Mayor Brad Clifton said the building will give a “south Louisiana feel” much like the nearby St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in downtown Loreauville.
