The Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival is just around the corner, bringing one of Iberia Parish’s largest festivals to the public once again.

The festival kicks off Sept. 26 with the Shadows-on-the-Teche Farm Fest from 4 to 8 p.m. Farm Fest is a family friendly event that takes place inside the Shadows grounds, which is converted to accommodate music, food, a petting zoo and plenty of games for children to enjoy on the first day of the Sugar Cane Festival.

The festival proper kicks off Sept. 27, with the Blessing of the Crop held at Gonsoulin Farms followed by the opening of the street fair which takes place every day that weekend as part of the festivities.

Fais-do-dos will take place Friday and Saturday with a musical lineup that includes Cajun Roots, the Rouge Krewe, the Bad Boys Band, Jamie Bergeron and much more.

The first parade of the season will be the Farmer’s Parade, which takes place Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. The parade starts near Ann Street and ends near Jefferson Street on Main Street and hosts a litany of tractors and farmers to celebrate the sugar season.

The Children’s Parade takes place Sept. 28 at 10 a.m., and is a widely popular festival that brings local children into the parade mix for families to enjoy. The Royalty Parade, the last parade of the festival, takes place Sept. 29 at noon and features this year’s Sugar Cane Festival royalty riding the floats and giving throws to event-goers.

The festival will also host several shows, including the Sugar Daddy Car Show on Sept. 28 and the Art and Photography Show on Sept. 26.

A Flower Show hosted by the New Iberia Garden Club and Azalea Garden Club will run each day of the festival as well. A 4-H Livestock Show is also included from Sept. 26-28 at the SugArena.
