The Disch-DeClouet Milk Fund provided 116 gallons of milk to 50 children in 20 families during the month of May.
Executive Director John Indest said one of those families included a grandmother and grandfather who have taken care of their daughter and four young children, including a 7-year-old, 6-year-old and 4-year old twins who needed help with their water bill.
“The grandparents are hoping that this temporary situation will be resolved soon since their resources are limited,” Indest said. “Meanwhile, they were very grateful to get eight gallons of milk through the Milk Fund for these growing children.”
In addition to providing milk to children in March, the Disch-DeClouet Social Service Center also provided clothing to 101 families, food to 178 families, and housing and/or utility assistance to 330 families. The Center also provided clients with information on resources available in the community, guidance on saving money on utilities and helpful hints on good nutrition.
Donations to the utility and housing assistance program can be sent to the Disch-DeClouet Social Service Center at 432 Bank Ave., New Iberia LA 70560 or on-line through the website www.dischdeclouetsocialservicecenter.org.
School uniforms and other clothing, diapers, bedding, towels and household items can be dropped off at the Center Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
