Parish Council extends homestead exemption to first responders

The Iberia Parish Council has approved an ordinance extending the homestead tax exemption to local first responders.
The ordinance, which was introduced by Council Chairman Warren Gachassin, establishes an additional $2,500 exemption on the assessed value of property, and aligns with the Louisiana State Constitution which supports those who serve our communities with dedication and valor, according to a prepared statement from Parish President Larry Richard.
“I want to thank my colleagues for unanimously passing this ordinance,” Gachassin said. “It shows we are committed to the good work our first responders provide to Iberia Parish.”
Richard said that the critical role local first responders play in safeguarding our community warrants the tax exemption and “is a tangible acknowledgment of their commitment and provides some financial relief.”
“The ordinance not only offers financial assistance but also reflects our shared gratitude for their selfless service,” Richard said in the statement. “By implementing this exemption, we can express our appreciation and reinforce our support for their vital roles in our community.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Councilman Gachassin for championing this ordinance. Your initiative to secure an additional $2,500 tax exemption for our first responders demonstrates a thoughtful and impactful way to honor their exceptional work and commitment to our community,” Richard added. “Your dedication to supporting our local heroes is greatly appreciated and will make a significant difference in recognizing their invaluable contributions.”
