The St. Martinville City Council passed the new year’s fiscal budget at Monday’s meeting unanimously.
The council also passed an amended final version of the 2023 budget. Burton Kolder with Kolder, Slaven & Company said the council’s new year budget projects $15 million in revenue and expenditures with a $450,000 shortfall that will be covered by the surplus carried over from the previous fiscal year.
Councilman Mike Fuselier used the opportunity to ask Kolder if any raises that were proposed for full-time employees or contract employees had to come before the council in the future. Kolder said that was already written into procedures.
In other business, the council took no action on a recommendation to change the meeting time of council meetings from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mayor Jason Willis brought the resolution as a recommendation in order to make the council meetings run faster.
Councilwoman Janise Anthony said that it was not possible for her, however, because she only gets off of her job 15 minutes before the meetings start.
“It’s only a recommendation,” Willis said.
The council moved on from the agenda item without voting.
