Suspect sought in Monday shooting on Admiral Doyle

The New Iberia Police are seeking a suspect in a shooting that took place Monday evening near the intersection of Admiral Doyle Drive and Center Street that left one man injured.

According to an NIPD spokeswoman, detectives were investigating the scene in the 300 block of E. Admiral Doyle Drive after a man and his vehicle were shot while he was getting into his pickup truck.

Police are looking for Trevor Gaspard, 25, of New Iberia. He is wanted on three couts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, one count of illegal carrying and discharge of a weapon and two counts of assault by drive-by shooting.

The spokeswoman said the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to employees at a convenience store adjacent to the shooting location who were familiar with Gaspard, the incident was jealousy driven after the victim had flirted with a woman known to Gaspard.

Gaspard fled the scene in his vehicle. Police are seeking video from nearby surveillance cameras. Investigators have already spoken with the victim to get his statement.

The spokeswoman said there were no other updates as of Tuesday evening. The investigation is ongoing.
