JEANERETTE — A Home-going celebration will be held for Charles Lewis Jr., 78, at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015, at First Jerusalem Baptist Church, Jeanerette, with Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander officiating.

Entombment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery in Jeanerette.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday at the church until time of funeral services.

Charles Lewis Jr. was born April 14, 1936, in Jeanerette, to the late Charles and Doretha Lewis Sr. A devout servant of the Lord, he was baptized at an early age at First Jerusalem Baptist Church. Upon graduation from Jeanerette Colored High School, Charles joined the Navy. While serving his country he met and married Emma Mae Young. To their union, they were blessed with four children. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, an active member of AWS Society and a retired welding instructor at Lafayette Regional Vocational School.

On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 8:30 p.m. he departed this life to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Mourning the departure of their loved one are his wife, Emma Young Lewis; one son Wendell Lewis of Jeanerette; two daughters Cheryl Delasbour (Wilfred) of Jeanerette and Sonja Lewis of Houston; one brother Elijah Ray Lewis of Jeanerette; one sister Cheryl R. Hawkins Jeanerette; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one godchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one child; and his sister-in-law Maggie R. Lewis.

Although we will miss him, we realize that our loss is heaven’s gain.

Active pallbearers will be Jamal Delasbour, Javon Lewis, Deiondre Lewis, Darien Kiel and David Manuel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shelrick Green Sr., Tommy Lewis Sr., Wilfred Delasbour Sr., Wilfred Delasbour Jr., Devonte Lewis, Cleveland Jones, Wendell Lewis and Elijah Ray Lewis.
