Joseph R. ‘Joe’ Dugas Sr.

Funeral services will be celebrated for Joseph R. “Joe” Dugas Sr., 74, at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Evangeline Funeral Home. Deacon Patrick Burke will officiate. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 1982 of New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8 a.m. until services with a VFW Ritual at 9:30 a.m.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Dugas passed away peacefully at Belle Teche Nursing Home on Thursday, August 2, 2012, with his family at his side.

Mr. Dugas, known by family and friends as Joe, was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.

Joe worked with the Norman Fence Co. for over 20 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1982, where he served on the Honor Guard and was Sargeant at Arms. He enjoyed playing bingo, going out to eat, visiting with his many friends at Belle Teche and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his six children Lennis Dugas of Alexandria, Joseph Dugas Jr., Paul Dugas and Liz Desormeaux and husband, Jimmy, all of New Iberia; Susan Dugas and Donald Dugas and wife, Rebecca, all of Lafayette; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Guidry Dugas; and his parents, Robert T. Dugas and Zelma Norris Dugas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Desormeaux, Paul Durio, Seth Zerlott, Mark Pattillo, Todd Spurlock and Ben Lilley.
