A Christian funeral service for Mrs. Lucy Doucet Chevalon, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Highland Baptist Church in New Iberia, with Pastor David Denton officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering for family and friends will be at David Funeral Home of New Iberia Monday, January 25, 2016, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a memorial and songs at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 8 a.m. until the time of services.
All who met Lucy instantly recognized that she was a person with an unexplainable presence. She beamed with faith, kindness, grace, humility and charisma. She truly savored life and her loved ones. Every radiant smile she shared and hug she gave were that of the greatest sincerity and warmth. When she was in the room, life was a lot sweeter and you knew you were witnessing someone special.
She enjoyed her job as a cosmetic consultant at Abdalla’s for 22 years. After retiring, she worked as a tour guide at Shadows-on-the-Teche. Lucy was a member of Highland Baptist Church and gave her life as a born again Christian in October 2003. Lucy had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir. She volunteered as a Sunday school teach alongside her dear friend Sue Aldridge. She enjoyed vacationing in the Colorado mountains with her family and friends Helen Kilchrist and Gloria Romero. She adored her fur babies, especially her longtime companion “Boo.”
She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Donald Chevalon; two daughters Sheryl LeJeune Copell and her husband, Marc Copell, of New Iberia and Donette Chevalon Mitchell and her husband, Scotty, of Delcambre; two sons Timothy LeJeune and his wife, Bridget, of New Iberia and Kevin LeJeune; her loving caretaker of nine years Shirley of New Iberia; two sisters Lydia Sims and husband, Roy, of Rosenbert, Texas, Mary Broussard of Orange, Texas; three brothers George Doucet and wife, Marsha, of Orange, Texas, Camey Doucet and wife, Deanna, of Lafayette and Joseph Doucet of Orange, Texas; 14 grandchildren Jarod Viator and wife, Amie, Natalie LaGrange and husband, Cory, Michelle Gordon and husband, Kyle, Tara Coons, Meagan Thibodeaux, Shane Thibodeaux, Doye Thibodeaux, Aubry LeJeune, Morgan Landry and husband, Scotty, Evan LeJeune, Lindsay Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Ryan Sigur and wife, Karleigh, and Tyler Sigur and wife, Jordan; 20 great-grandchildren, with two due to arrive.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Colleen LeJeune Thibodeaux; her brothers Charles Doucet and Freddie Doucet; and sister Alice Doucet Broussard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim LeJeune, Marc Copell, Scotty Mitchell, Evan LeJeune, Jarod Viator and Tyler Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers include Bridget LeJeune and Natalie LaGrange.
David Funeral Home of New Iberia will be handling the arrangements.
