Lydia Alice Batson Burke

NEW ORLEANS — Lydia Alice Batson Burke, lifelong resident of New Orleans, passed away on April 30, 2012, with her family at her side in Atlanta. Lydia Alice Burke, affectionately called “Baby,” was the only child of William Batson of New Iberia and Sarah Brown Batson of New Orleans. She was baptized at an early age and served God faithfully until her last breath. She also was an active member of the Eastern Stars Ruth Chapter for many years. Lydia A. Burke was educated in Orleans Parish and Iberia Parish Public Schools. She was a graduate of The Jefferson Technical School. She worked for Ochsner Foundation Hospital and the state of Louisiana for 20 years.

Lydia was committed to her children, Samuel Burke of New Orleans, Charmaine Francois of Atlanta and Dr. Charleen A.V. Burke Thompson of Pooler, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

All are welcome to attend the Home Going of Mrs. Lydia Burke. A Memorial Service will be at DW Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. and final resting place will be at Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery in Hurlock, Md.
