Vernon Joseph Thibodeaux Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Vernon Joseph Thibodeaux Sr., 80, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Greene officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Thibodeaux passed away at 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Thibodeaux was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 11792. He was a member of the National Guard and was employed with Waukesha Pierce for 30 years. After his retirement, he could be found in his shop piddling and fixing anything that was broken. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, shrimping, gardening, boiling crawfish and barbecuing.

He is survived by two sons Vernon J. Thibodeaux Jr. and his wife, Brenda Delatte Thibodeaux, of Ocala, Fla., and Randal J. Thibodeaux of New Iberia; two daughters Cheryl T. Moreland and her husband, Ernest, and Charlene T. Hebert and her husband, Steve, all of New Iberia; three grandsons Christopher Delahoussaye of New Iberia, Seth J. Thibodeaux and Ethan J. Thibodeaux, both of Ocala, Fla.; and one brother Wallace Thibodeaux Jr. of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Martinez Thibodeaux; parents, Wallace and Zulmee Hebert Thibodeaux; three brothers Clarence Thibodeaux, Ned Thibodeaux and Grady Thibodeaux; and three sisters Goldie Alexander, Mavis G. Comeaux and Evelyn Thibodeaux.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Thibodeaux Jr., Randal Thibodeaux, Ernest Moreland, Steve Hebert, Christopher Delahoussaye and Eric Hebert.

Wallace Thibodeaux will be an honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, especially Judith, Dr. Rinaldi and his staff Gail Pellerin and his special caregivers, his daughters, Cheryl and Charlene.
