NIRD is looking for a few good men, and women too

The New Iberia Recreation Department is forming a men’s pickup basketball league and still needs players ready to lace up their shoes and relive their glory days.
Men aged 35 and older can sign up for just $5 per game, with spectators paying just $1 to cheer on their fathers, uncles, friends and coworkers. Players 30+ pay $10 per game. Teams are allowed but not required.
Games will be held each Wednesday at both the City Park and West End Park, beginning Oct. 18. Games will last from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
There is something available for the ladies of New Iberia as well this year: a powderpuff football game at the Bank Avenue Park.
This 7-on-7 event will take place on Oct. 7 from noon until 5 p.m. Co-ed team fees are just $100, with entry to the games as low as $3 per person. Concessions will be available; you don’t want to miss this one!
Several NIRD school league seasons will also be kicking off in the coming months.
Volleyball begins on Monday, Sept. 11 with basketball (Oct, 16) and Cornhole (Nov. 28) also set to begin soon. School leagues are open to all Iberia Parish students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Registration for volleyball has closed, but all other sports are still open. Basketball registration will last through Sept. 26. Contact your child’s school to learn more.
