Joseph Bennett Pecot

Dr. Joseph Bennett (“Pete”) Pecot Jr., age 88, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018. He was born March 2, 1930, in Labadieville, the son of the late Joseph Bennett Pecot Sr. and Inez Robicheaux.

Dr. Pete is survived by his children Joseph (Lourdes Iturralde) Pecot III, Thomas (Tina) Pecot, Timothy (Linda) Pecot, Raymond (Kristen) Pecot, Giselle Pecot (Helmut) Mundt, Tina Jo Pecot (Jason Cheek) and Shannon (Leslie) Pecot; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Samuel, Ashley, Karl, Joshua, Jolie, Alexa Rae Pecot, and Bennet Jon Pecot; seven great-grandchildren; first wife, Hyacinth Pecot; and beloved poodle, Josephine Marie.

Dr. Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Long Pecot.

Dr. Pete was the first resident pathologist in Iberia Parish, where he made his home, as well as one of the founders of Acadiana Medical Lab. He was a huge supporter and fan of LSU athletics, particularly football, and he passed on this love to his children and grandchildren. He was a true student at heart, an avid reader, fly fisherman and amateur photographer and birdwatcher. He loved traveling and gazing serenely at the beautiful sunsets a day could bring. But always, his greatest joy came from his family and his dog. Dr. Pete was brilliant, kind, loving, accepting, loyal and generous to a fault; we know there will never be another like him. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

There will be a private gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life.
