Troop 133 cleans up Jeanerette Museum

The Jeanerette Museum got a facelift thanks to community service being undertaken by Boy Scout Troop 133 over the weekend.

Cory Peltier said the volunteer effort was the second time that the New Iberia-based troop ventured out to Jeanerette to engage in community service, and the boys raked the leaves of the museum as well as cleaned the roof as part of their community service effort.

“One of our boys did trash pickup in the park last year and it was a big success,” Peltier said. “The troop decided to keep doing something in Jeanerette every year and this year and they set this up.”

By mid-afternoon, the troop had amassed several trash bags of leaves that after three hours of cleaning up the Jeanerette Museum, which puts on events throughout the year to educate the public on the history of Jeanerette and Iberia Parish.

“They had a really good time,” Peltier said. “Some of the boys said they had never raked before so they learned a lot.”

Troop members encircled the museum and swept all through the property, which is located off Main Street in Jeanerette, to facilitate the cleanup and make the most of the time they had while on the property for the community service effort.
