The New Iberia Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested a man for the Meche’s Donuts burglary that happened on Sept. 3. 

Investigators began looking into the case of the robbery, where video captured the suspect busting through the glass on the front door of the shop and was inside the business for about 20 minutes before the motion sensors picked up on him. 

A social media post from Meche’s at the time said the suspect tried to break open the safe and caused thousands of dollars of damage at the time. 

After collecting the facts of the case, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Joseph “J Five” Simon, 41, for simple burglary. 

Simon, who is currently incarcerated in Iberia Parish Jail on separate charges, has been additionally booked for Simple Burglary.
