Jackets’ win streak snapped

Sam Houston High School stayed unbeaten and ended New Iberia Senior High’s 11-game win streak with a 10-3, District 3-5A baseball win Tuesday in Moss Bluff.

The Broncos (15-0) trailed 1-0 after New Iberia’s first at-bat but scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game. Sam Houston added five runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth after NISH scored twice in the top of the fifth.

Will Thompson went five innings on the mound for the win. Marcus Mott threw the final two innings. Caleb Seroski took the loss with Seth Lopez and Alex Norris pitching in relief.

Max Borel had three hits and scored twice for the Yellow Jackets (11-2, 0-1 district).Tyrese Morgan scored New Iberia’s other run after drawing a base on balls in the fifth inning. Austin Norris had two hits and Brock Boudreaux also had a single for the Jackets.

Silas Ardoin had two hits and scored three times for the Broncos and Hunter Gotreaux tripled, singled and scored twice.

New Iberia hosts a tournament this weekend with a game against Westgate today at 6 p.m. and against Catholic High at 1 p.m. Saturday. CHS and Westgate play at 6 p.m. Friday.
