Local teams play in Delcambre, NISH wins two

It was softball, softball and more softball in the Teche Area as Delcambre played host to its annual tournament and a couple of other area teams played single games Friday and Saturday.

Host Delcambre, Highland Baptist, New Iberia Seniot High, Westgate, St. Martinville and Loreauville all participated in the DHS tournament Friday and Saturday while Catholic High played host to Vermilion Catholic in a non-district game and Centerville played host to St. Edmund of Eunice in a non-district game as well.

Results from Delcambre’s Tournament were not immediately available and will be reported in Monday’s Daily Iberian. Catholic High lost to Vermilion Catholic 5-4 in eight innings Saturday while SEH beat Centerville 19-4.

In other softball games in the area, Hanson lost to Kplan 15-0 and Franklin fell to Berwick 16-1. 

On Friday, Franklin lost to Terrebonne 19-4.

Baseball

New Iberia 17,

Church Point 0

YOUNGSVILLE — New Iberia Senior High finished off a sweep of opponents Saturday at the Eunice High Tournament as Kade Linn threw a one-hit shutout in a 17-0, 5 inning win over Church Point Saturday at Ascension Episcopal School.

Linn struck out eight and Davien Johnson had three hits, scored two runs and had an RBI as NISH improved to 8-5 overall with the win.

Chipper Menard also had three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs and had five RBIs for the Jackets while Ron Polk had three hits, scored a run and added an RBI.

NISH returns to action Monday when the Jackets play host to Lafayette Christian at 6:30 p.m.

New Iberia 6,

Ouachita Christian 1

Kannin Meyers had three hits, including a double, and Andre Muffaletto and Chipper Menard combined on a six hit performance as New Iberia beat Ouachita Christian 6-1 Friday at the Eunice Tournament.

Muffaletto went six innings and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and Menard pitched an inning of relief and had two strikeouts while Trace Conley had a home run and three RBI. and Ron Polk had a double and Davien Johnson had two stole bases in the win.

St. John 6,

Loreauville 4

MORGAN CITY — St. John pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a tie and beat Loreauville 6-4 in the Central Catholic Tournament Saturday.

Izaak Piel took the loss for LHS in relief as he allowed four runs on three hits in four innings of work. 

Gavin Lancon started for the Tigers and gave up two runs on three hits in two innings.

Zy Alexander had two hits and scored a run for LHS while Shajuan Noran had a double and an RBI in defeat while Jobe Hebert and Caleb Washington each had a hit and scored a run in the loss.

Loreauville fell to 5-3 on the season and travels to David Thibodaux Monday.

In other prep baseball games Saturday, Ellender beat St. Martinville 13-8 in a non-district game while Westgate lost 15-5 to Port Barre; Delcambre beat Highland Baptist 17-7 and Hanson lost two games at the Chalmette Tournament, falling 14-4 to Chalmette and 9-3 to Slidell.

In Friday’s games. ESA lost to Holden 19-5 and St. Martinville beat Abbeville 14-1

Also, Westgate lost to Eunice High 15-3; Erath lost to Covenant Christian 14-13; Centerville beat Franklin 7-6 and Highland Baptist beat David Thibodaux 11-3.
