IPAC Shelter Pet(s) of the Week – Penny, Lexi, Nadez and Keno

Every week is eventual at Iberia Parish Animal Control. It tends to be that way when the shelter is housing more than 60 dogs.

This week was busier than ever as TV stations from Lafayette sent reporters to film segments promoting adoptions and Saturday’s Hollywoof: A Doggie Fashion Show.

The event, which will take place at 6 PM at The Harvest Room at 301 W. St. Peter St., will raise funds to allow the Acadiana Spay Neuter Clinic to offer its services at record low cost to the community,” IPAC manager Amanda Istre said.

Tickets, which are $50, are available through the event’s Facebook page. Caribbean Ice will provide dinner. The show will feature 10 shelter dogs “strutting their stuff” on the runway in hopes of winning either the Judges’ Choice or People’s Choice Award.

This week’s shelter pets of the week are Penny, Lexi, Nadez and Keno.

Penny, a retriever mix Istre called “a golden girl,” is available for a reduced adoption fee of $50. Estimated at 6-to-7 years old, she has already been spayed and knows basic commands.

“She is extremely sweet,” Istre said. “She loves to sit at the front of her cage and greet everyone that comes by.”

Lexi is a three-year-old lab/pit mix whose adoption fee is $100. She is energetic and playful, Istre said. The fee will cover Lexi’s spay, rabies vaccination and microchip.

Nadez’s story will tug at your heartstrings. An Iberia Parish deputy found the three-year-old chocolate lab mix in an extremely emaciated condition and supplied her name, which Istre said means “hope” in Slavic. She has recuperated and is available for adoption for $100.

Keno, an eight-year-old pit bull, came into the shelter as a stray. He had a microchip, but it led nowhere. He has been neutered and is available for adoption for $50.

“He is a love bug who loves neck scratches, laying about, taking long naps and eating treats,” Istre said.

Interested in adopting? You can set up a meet and greet with a dog or cat from 12 PM to 3 PM on weekdays. IPAC is located at 2017 Seaway Access Road in New Iberia.
