Gussie Stevens Romero
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Gussie Bernadette Romero, 95, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Interment will be follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Friday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., with the Rosary being recited at 9 a.m.
Gussie was born September 23, 1922, in Jeanerette to the late Joseph Stevens and Azelie Sonnier Stevens, and passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Consolata Home in New Iberia.
Mrs. Gussie was a lifelong dedicated sitter caring for the sick in New Iberia. She had a fondness for animals and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles. Many times her friends or family would visit and together they would build the puzzles over conversation.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her step children Clark T. Romero and wife, Darleen, Claire Romero Duplichien and husband, Danny, Patricia Romero Kidd and husband, Frank, Cecile Romero Haley and husband, Alvin and Myra Romero; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister Pete Stevens and wife, Mona, and Gertie Bouton.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of first marriage, John DeJean; her husband of second marriage, Clarence P. Romero; a stepson Kurt A. Romero; and her siblings Gernice Stevens, Ivray Stevens and Irwin Stevens.
Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
