Body of missing local fisherman recovered

MYETTE POINT – The body of a missing fisherman was found late Saturday night.

New Iberia outdoorsman Leonard “T’Clyde” Norbert, 58, had been reported missing late Saturday afternoon when he failed to show up for a weigh-in at a bass fishing tournament held in the Atchafalaya Basin.

Norbert, who reportedly fished the contest by himself, was a no-show at the tournament’s weight-in site at Myette Point Landing in St. Mary Parish.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified about Norbert’s disappearance, and a joint search by IPSO, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and Norbert’s family was conducted and Norbert’s black/red aluminum bass boat was found unoccupied in the popular fishing spot Mud Cove area (set of G.A. Cut between Grevemberg to the north and Miller’s Chute to the south), with the trolling motor down and a fishing rod’s line in the water. Norbert was not found inside the boat.

Later Saturday night, authorities did recover a body from the Mud Cove area.

IPSO Spokesman Wendell Raborn released a statement on Sunday identifying that the body recovered was that of Norbert. Raborn also stated that the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
