Louis James Stansbury

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Louis James Stansbury at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Mr. Stansbury will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Mausoleum immediately following the Mass.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the Rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.  

Louis was born July 19, 1933, in Jeanerette and passed away peacefully Thursday December 28, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Louis worked as a mechanic with LeBlanc and Broussard Ford, when it was located on Main Street. He then worked many years in the oilfield in various capacities, but was a motorman for most of that time. Louis enjoyed fishing and had a very big heart for animals. He took care of many strays and always saw to it that they had food and a home. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be forever remembered.  

His is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years, Yvonne Primeaux Stansbury; his nieces Betty Gaspard Sickle LaSalle and husband, Jerry, and Jeannette L. Griffin Marine; and his nephew Junius “Buddy” Sinitiere and wife, Debbie, (who all affectionately referred to him as “Uncle Boy”). He was also survived by a host of great-nieces and nephews who adored him.   

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Friou Stansbury; his father, Jack Stansbury; his sisters Flo Sinitiere, Marie Stansbury Gaspard and Louise Stansbury Griffin; and his brother Joseph Stansbury.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck and Roger Sickle, Terry and Chad Louviere, Mike Thibodeaux and David LaSalle.

Honorary pallbearers are Nathan, Jerry, Clayton and Chris Sickle, Andy Lasalle, Eric, Albert and Donavan Waguespack, and Mark and Jason Louviere.
