The Bayou Teche Museum is excited to announce the opportunity for residents to hear an update on the ongoing archaeology mission, “The New Acadia Project,” currently being explored in and around Loreauville. This project is a multidisciplinary research effort designed to systematically locate, identify and investigate the eighteenth-century homesteads and unmarked gravesites of Acadian exiles in south-central Louisiana.

The lecture coincides with the current Bayou Teche Museum exhibit, Saga of the Acadians, by native son, George Rodrigue. It is a series of fifteen paintings chronicling the Acadian journey from France to Nova Scotia in the 17th century, from Nova Scotia to Louisiana during the Grand Dérangement of 1755, and finally the first official return visit to Grand Pré in the 1930s. The series of oil on canvas paintings is on loan from the Gauthier Family of New Orleans.

All participants in the lecture will be invited to view the Saga collection at the Museum free of charge following the program.
