My Life’s Been Grand

Connie and I are George Strait fans. Digging around one night on iTunes we came across one of his songs that we particularly enjoy and identify with – “My Life’s Been Grand.” Allow me to share some of the lyrics: “…I’ve had good times, and bad times, and hard times…life’s been a blessing every day. And if it ended today, I’ve been all the way. My life’s been grand.”

As I celebrated my 71st birthday recently I was reflecting on just how true these lyrics are in my life. Then, a couple days later, over lunch with my good friend Odie Terry, I mentioned that I wanted to slow down. Jokingly, he asked if I wanted to retire. “Me? Never, but slow down surely,” I said.

A few days later, Odie called and said he and a couple of his business associates, Steve and Cherry Fisher May, would be interested in acquiring Acadiana LifeStyle if I wanted to slow down. He said, “Of course, we fully expect you to stay involved with the magazine.” After some serious conversations including assurances that this group would be committed to continuing the publication on the same path we’ve followed for 27+ years, Connie and I decided to accept their offer.

While my involvement will not require as much time as before, as many of you know, I still own and will be involved with our billboard company, Great Outdoor Advertising. And I look forward to continuing to assist in the editorial direction of Acadiana LifeStyle. As always, let me know when you hear of a good story that needs telling, or someone who’s done something extraordinary.

Connie and I want to personally thank all of you, our friends, readers and customers, who have been so supportive of our life work. We trust that you have enjoyed reading every issue as much as we’ve enjoyed putting each one together.

And reverting back to the George Strait lyrics…”And if it ended today…my life’s been grand.”
