A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church from 7 a.m. until time of service.

Sister Georgia Mae Joseph Daniels was born June 23, 1923, to the late Harry Joseph and the late Morris and Maggie S. Chatman. A native of New Iberia, she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Star Temple Baptist Church where she was a “Door Keeper of the Lord” and named “Mother of the Church.” She remained faithful to Star Temple Baptist Church until she departed her earthly life on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 4:55 p.m.

She was a quiet Christian woman and when we saw her sitting alone on the porch with her eyes closed, we knew not to disturb her because this was her time with the “Lord.” Her actions spoke louder than words and it was seen in everything she did by putting God first and others before her. Her generosity will always be remembered because she always tried to do what was right rather than what she had the right to do.

She enjoyed sewing and spent many hours making clothes for her family members. She loved children, whether they were in the backyard, in the pasture playing or participating in school athletics, she was there watching. She even “adopted” some.

She married the late Lawrence Daniels Sr. and from this union they had two sons Lawrence Jr. and Rickey (Ursula); and two daughters Lois V. and Maggie F. Daniels, all from New Iberia.

Mother Georgia Daniels leaves to cherish her memories, her loving four children; a “special” son Alfred G. (Vanessa) Phillips of New Iberia;  three “special” daughters Mary Segura, Betty S. ( Danny) Demouchet and Diane Segura, all of New Iberia; a sister Leona C. Charles of New Iberia; a “special sister” Yvonne P. Chambers of New Iberia; grandchildren Anthony B. (Cynthia) and Nathan R. Daniels of Lafayette, Shawana Thibodeaux of St. Martinville, Marquis J. Daniels of New Iberia, Leslie Sutton and Crystal Rayburn both of Camden, Arkansas,  Matthew Lemke of Mcrae, Arkansas and Kimberly Lemke of Lafayette; great-granddaughters Delaney Harrison and Avery Daniels of New Orleans and Kaylen and Jordyn Daniels of New Iberia;  and a “special” granddaughter Airforce Cadet Makayla Gilliam of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in the death by her husband, Lawrence Daniels Sr.; her parents,  Harry Joseph and Morris and Maggie S. Chatman; four brothers Morris, Norris, Warren and Louis Chatman; three sisters Lou Edna Chatman, Stella C. Mitchell and Louise C. Polk; and a “special” cousin Margaret S. Vitto/Vitatoe.

Active pallbearers are Lawrence Daniels Jr., Rickey Daniels, Alfred G. Phillips, Anthony B. Daniels, Kevin C. Vitto and Nathan R. Daniels.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Joseph Jr., Robert Lopez, Wendell Chambers, Wayne Hamilton, Herbert Garrett, Ronald DeGray, Terry Willis Sr., Marquis J. Daniels and Samuel Alexander.
