IPAC Shelter Pet(s) of the Week – Banjo, Sweetie, Blackjack and Shawn

Iberia Parish Animal Control hopes that the right person will see Banjo’s plight and give the three-legged dog a home.

When he arrived at IPAC in February, Banjo had a broken leg, and the Mardi Paws association gracefully covered his surgery, but he hasn’t found a home yet.

He is a Rottweiler mix with a beautiful, golden face that looks like a mask with a white snout, and his resume is impressive, according to shelter manager Amanda Istre, who says the pup has adjusted well to life as a tripod.

“He’s house trained, kennel trained, is great in the car and loves going on walks,” Istre said. “He loves backyard playtime, and, of course, chasing squirrels and sleeping on the couch. He does well with low-energy dogs and seems to get along best with female dogs.”

Other shelter staff favorites this week are Sweetie, a two-year old pit bull terrier with the “face of a coach hippo,” Istre said, and Shawn, a 32-pound low-rider, also known as “a pocket pittie.”

Sweetie has been at IPAC since June, is dog friendly, and doesn’t seem to mind cats. Shawn is heartworm negative and would be content with a coach to surf. Adoption fees are usually $100, which includes rabies vaccine, spay/neuter and microchip, though the shelter often has fully vetted dogs available for $50.

In other shelter news, one of this week’s scheduled Pets of the Week, BlackJack, was adopted. Also, the longest resident, Jap, was finally reunited with his original pet parents, and he can now return to his old life with his real name, which is Apollo.

Interested in adopting? You can set up a meet and greet with a dog or cat from 12 PM to 3 PM on weekdays. IPAC is located at 2017 Seaway Access Road in New Iberia. (337) 364-6311.
