Special meeting set to ask for appointments clarification
The Iberia Medical Center Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting at noon Friday to ask state legislators to take action clarifying the state statute governing appointments to the IMC board.
The request stems from an analysis done at the request of state Sen. Fred Mills which determined there was some vague language in the statute under which the board operates. When the statute was amended in 1005 to allow for the appointment of two members of the hospital’s medical staff to the board, for example, the research showed that the number of board members could be interpreted as either 7 or 9. The legislation is also expected to clarify the process for appointment of the medical staff representatives on the board based on actions at the Iberia Parish Council meeting Wednesday evening.
The Iberia Parish Medical Center Board of Commissioners will meet in the IMC board room on the main campus.
