An eggsellent way to spend a day
Dozens of children flooded Willow Wood Park Saturday morning to grab their share of over 1,000 hidden Easter eggs.
Iberia Parish Recreation Center sponsored the event and it didn’t take long to wrap up the day’s activities as area kids took to the art of finding as many prize filled eggs as possible.
“I came because I was hoping I would win, I found 35,” said seven-year-old Angelo Broussard.
His twin sister China didn’t mind coming up short of the big prize but she was grateful for her small treasure of gifts.
“It was fun because some of the eggs have tattoos and rings and all that stuff,” said China.
Parents could be found having just as much fun as their kids as they helped count the number of eggs their little ones were able to rake up.
“I love it because he looks like a mini me, my dad has a picture of me at Easter and we’re almost identical. I used to love Easter egg hunts and I still do,” Derek Decuir said.
His 4-year-old son Dylan collected 32 eggs in his Ninja turtle easter basket and matching shirt. “I had fun,” Dylan said.
And then there were the day’s big winners who collected extra prizes for finding the golden eggs, a carrot egg and for having the most eggs in their basket. It was a great day for 12-year old Victoria Gary and her four-year-old brother Chase. They both found a golden egg at the same time.
“I won an Easter basket full of treats and so did my brother,” Victoria Gary said. “When he found his he yelled I got the egg Mamma.”
Organizers of the event at Iberia Parish Recreation Center said seeing the kids enjoy themselves is what the department is all about.
“We host these every year throughout the parish. We had one last week in Lydia and we have three more next weekend,” Assistant IPRC Director Kaylyn Landry said.
“This is probably one of the largest (Easter egg hunts) because it’s in a residential neighborhood,” Landry said. “They’re were about 60 kids. We usually order anywhere between 8,000 and 10,000 eggs to get us through all the hunts in the parish.”
