Iberia Parish School Board to make final call on closing two elementary schools
The Iberia Parish School Board will make the final decision on whether to close Jeanerette Elementary and North Street Elementary and relocate the Alternative Center for Education to the North Street facility at tonight’s regular meeting.
The IPSB’s finance committee unanimously approved the measure Monday, although some parents, teachers and principals expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of the move. The recommendation was made after a review of the school district’s budgetary deficit.
North Street students will be re-located to Daspit Elementary and Park Elementary if the resolution is approved. Jeanerette Elementary students will be moving to St. Charles Street Elementary as well.
In other business, Superintendent of Schools Carey Laviolette will introduce the new assistant principal for Westgate High School at the meeting.
The board will grant authority to advertise for bids for milk and juice products as well as bread products. A contract renewal with Sugarland Exterminating is on the agenda as well.
The meeting takes place at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the IPSB’s administrative office at 1500 Jane St.
