Robert Pierre Pontiff Jr.

Funeral services for Robert Pierre “Bob” Pontiff Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway will conduct the service. Following he will be laid to rest with Military Honors in the Franklin Cemetery Mausoleum.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, October 17, at Ibert’s Mortuary from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., and again Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born in Franklin on July 27, 1930 and passed away at the age of 88, on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was one of three children born to the late Robert Pierre Pontiff Sr. and the late Evia Boudreaux Pontiff. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob served his country and fellow man for 20 years from 1948 until retiring in 1968 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. While serving in the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life, Jacquelyn, and began raising a family. Following his military career, Bob went on to work in the Natural Gas Transmission business with ANR Pipeline, where he retired from, following 20 years of dedicated service. He had a love of old country and western music, as well as a passion for classic cars. Of the several he had at various times, his favorite was his 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 that he restored. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Jacquelyn Scott Pontiff; four children Robert Pierre Pontiff III and his wife, Mary, Ronald Pontiff and his wife, Robin, James “Jim” Pontiff and his wife, Ana and Linda Pontiff; eight grandchildren Elisa Ripoll, Katherine Pontiff, Christine Pontiff, Richard Schmitz, James Pontiff Jr., Becky Pontiff, Jacob Pontiff and Joseph Pontiff; and three great-grandchildren Audrey Ripoll and Yuma and Maya Schmitz.

In addition to his parents, Robert and Evia, he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley P. LeBlanc; and his brother Donald Pontiff Sr.
