Suspects in 20-plus car burglaries are arrested
The New Iberia Police Department has arrested two men and a juvenile Monday as suspects in more than 20 car burglaries that took place over the past two to three weeks.
NIPD Chief Todd D’Albor said NIPD police officers took a call from a resident at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday. The caller reported three people around the driveway of the resident’s property.
Police officers responded to the scene and were able to locate three suspects, as well as an item one of the suspects discarded. The item later was determined to be stolen from a vehicle approximately an hour earlier in New Iberia.
The police officers took the three suspects to the Detective Section, where a follow-up investigation determined they were responsible for more than 20 burglaries in the city for the past few weeks.
The suspects were identified later as David Collins, 18, of New Iberia, Jakobie Miller, 17, of New Iberia, and a 15-year-old New Iberia juvenile. Collins and Miller were charged with possession of a stolen firearm, 21 counts of simple burglary, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, theft of goods and trespassing.
They were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. Judge Curtis Sigur with the 16th Judicial District Court set bond for Collins and Miller at $3,000.
The third suspect was taken to the Lafayette Juvenile Facility.
D’Albor said the burglaries the suspects were charged with ranged all over the city.
