James A. Breaux Sr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held for James A. Breaux Sr., 80, on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon as celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018, in the funeral home with the Men’s Rosary Group.
A native and resident of New Iberia, James was a deputy with the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department and worked in produce with A&P Tea Company. He was a trumpet player in a band, enjoyed gardening, raising birds, chicken and ducks as well as fishing, hunting and time at the casino.
He is survived by two daughters Melanie Breaux Menard and husband Jerry and Lisa Breaux Abshire of New Iberia; five sons James A. Breaux Jr. and wife Jeannie, of Abbeville, Bobby Breaux and wife Lisa of Abbeville, Kalem Irving and wife, Dawn, of Metairie, Samuel Irving III and wife Becky of New Iberia and Robert Irving of Gonzales; seven grandsons Ryan Breaux and wife Christian, Kelly Breaux and wife, Abby, Tance Irving and wife Megan, Blake Irving, Samuel Irving IV and wife Maggie, Jeremy Paul Irving and Jeremy Irving; nine granddaughters Meena Breaux, Amanda A. Pope and husband, Daven, Kecia Folsom and husband Jeremy, Kacey Hardin and husband Anthony, Katie Dubois and husband, Elliott, Megan Irving, Kayla Irving, Nicole Daspat and husband Chad, and Natasha Irving; twenty-four great-grandchildren; ex-wife Vivian B. Gilbert of Abbeville; brother Joseph Clovis “J.C.” Breaux III and wife Lucille of New Iberia; and sister Lou Bayard of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Thelma C. Breaux; father, Joseph Clovis Breaux; mother, Camille Lassange Breaux; sister and brother-in-law Florela Dartez and Gastin.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Menard, Daven Pope, Jeremy Irving, Jeremy Folsom, Kelly Breaux and Ryan Breaux.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctor and nurses at Heart of Hospice for their care given to their father. And to the doctor and nursing staff at Iberia Manor South.
