Willie Maxie
ASHTON — A Home-going celebration will be held for Mr. Willie Maxie at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 145 Prevost Road, Franklin, LA 70538 (Ashton community) with Minister Rickey Latigue, officiating, Rev. Ulysses Mitchell, Pastor.
He will await the resurrection in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Ashton.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday at the church 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
He was a member of Lydia Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Minister Ron Perkins and a former member of the Doric Masonic Lodge No. 23.
Willie Maxie, 78, was born one of 13 children in Glenco, on September 4, 1949, to the late L.C. Maxie and Sylvinia Thomas Maxie. He was united in marriage to the late Mary Maxie Baker in 1968. To this union they were blessed with six children. Later in life he meet and was united in marriage to late Edna Mae Williams Maxie, in this union he loved her three children. Willie was a native of Glencoe, known for helping and hanging out with his friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, cooking and gardening. He is a retiree of Morton Salt Co. where he served as a long time employee. His dedication and zealous work ethics are still embedded in the memories of those employed there. He departed this earthly life on February 6, 2019, at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, following a long term illness.
In life Willie was a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church with his late wife Edna Mae Williams Maxie, but after her death he moved to New Iberia, with his loving, caring, devoted daughter Gladys Maxie Latigue (Rickey, one of his caretakers) until his death.
He leaves to cherish his fond memory, his three children Gladys Maxie Latigue (Minister Rickey), Latosha Maxie Sophus (Kedron Sr. ) of Jeanerette and Walter W. Maxie of New Iberia; his step-children whom he loved and cared for as his own, Irma Arceneaux Holmes (Stanley Jr. ) of Hinesville, Georgia, Raymond Williams of Glencoe and Freddie Arceneaux (Margaret) of Gulfport, Mississippi; his siblings Alfred Maxie of Franklin, Hester Jones, Dorothy Maxie, Virigenia Williams and Frank Maxie of Newton, Texas; sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three godchildren Bridget Marks, Wanda Maxie, James Maxie and Brian Connor of Texas; former son-in-law, whom he looked upon as a son Glenn A. Jones; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Mary Maxie Baker and Edna Mae Williams Maxie; three sons Robert Joseph Maxie, Florida Key Maxie and Christopher Paul Maxie; his parents, L. C. Maxie and Sylvinia Thomas Maxie; siblings Clarence Maxie, John Maxie, Dennis Maxie, James Maxie Sr. and David Maxie; maternal grandparents, Shack Thomas and Annie Milton; and brothers-in-law Ernest Williams Jr. and Lawrence Jones.
Active Pallbearers are Randall Maxie, Freddie Arceneaux, Raymond Williams, Jeremiah Maxie, James Maxie and Oscar Stewart.
Honorary Pallbearers are Glenn Jones, Walter Maxie, Andrus Vitto, Greg Bowie, Kendall Maxie, Edward Patrick Jr., Ron Vanderbilt, Alfred Maxie, L. C. Maxie, Frank Maxie and Gus Bowie Jr.
