A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of services, with the Rosary being prayed at 10:30 a.m., led by her longtime coworker L.J. Norris.
Lillie was born August 3, 1933, in New Iberia to the late Charles Vincent Sapienza and the late Sarah Rumore Sapienza and passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Maison Teche Nursing Center with her family at her side. She was 84.
Mrs. Lillie, affectionately known as Loulie, was retired from Evangeline Life Insurance Company with over 30 years of service. Outside of her work, she was most happy when she was with her family. Lillie absolutely loved children and babies and looked upon so many as her own, which was evident by the number of godchildren she had. Gardening was also a hobby of hers and she never passed up a chance to just sit outside on her porch to admire the many birds and beauty of nature. But Lillie will be remembered most for her kind smile and her servant’s heart. Her life was lived to serve family and friends and her Lord God. Rest well Loulie. We love you.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews Connie Sapienza Armentor, Francis A. Sapienza Jr., Cecile S. Motto, Thomas V. Sapienza Sr., Paul R. Sapienza, Charlie S. Cormier, John S. Sapienza, Christine David and Sharon Marks; numerous great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; host of godchildren; and her sister-in-law Delta Sapienza.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Nina David; and her brothers Joseph Sapienza and Francis Sapienza Sr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Francis, Thomas, Paul and John Sapienza, Chris Motto, Joey Motto and Tookie Mallery.
Honorary pallbearers are L. J. Norris and Kenny Pellerin.
Masses may be offered for our beloved Loulie.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Maison Teche Nursing Center and to the staff of Bridgeway Hospice, for the friendship, care and compassion shown to Lillie.
