St. Martinville beats Higgins in overtime
MARRERO — Jalen Mitchell had 21 points and Datayvious Gabriel added 18 as St. Martinville rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat L.W. Higgins 56-55 in overtime Friday in a non-district boys’ basketball game.
Davontre Alexander added 11 for the Tigers, who trailed 41-31 going into the fourth quarter and outscored the Hurricanes 19-9 in final period and 6-5 in the extra period for the win.
SMSH improved to 1-8 on the season and travels to Jeanerette Tuesday.

Highland Baptist 42, Catholic-Pointe Coupee 25
NEW ROADS — Marin Barras had a game-high 25 points and equaled Catholic High of Pointe Coupee’s total output to help Highland Baptist stay unbeaten on the season with a win over the Lady Hornets Thursday.
Jasey Roy and Blair Abshire each had 7 points for the Lady Bears, who jumped out to a 12-2 first quarter lead.
HBCS improved to 7-0 on the season, the best start in school history.
