‘Stars and Stripes’ concert to honor local veterans

It’s that time of year where the Iberia Cultural Resources Association will once again be putting on a full concert in honor of our veterans with the Stars and Stripes concert on June 23.

The concert is one of several free concerts brought to New Iberia annually by the ICRA and features the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra at no charge to event-goers. The concert is also brought to the public thanks to LHC Group.

“We want everyone to know that this is a concert for everyone,” organizer Nelwyn Hebert said. “We honor the veterans, but anyone can come and it’s free.”

The Stars and Stripes Concert has a special patriotic flare with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra focusing on music that gives a tribute to those who have served.

In fact, organizers ask that attending veterans RSVP for the event so that their name and branch of service can be mentioned during the event.

Patriotic music along with jazz and World War II era music will be played at the event, which takes place at the Sugar Cane Festival Building Sunday at 3 p.m.

The event traditionally calls out the names of veterans in attendance so that those in attendance can give a special thank you for serving the country.

For those who may know a veteran, there is time to make a reservation. To RSVP, call or text Nelwyn Hebert at nelwyn@cox.net or 967-2018.

Please give your name, address, phone number, branch of service in which you served, and number of persons attending the program with you.
