Liz Granger Lancon

Liz E. Granger Lancon, a native of Lafayette and resident of New Iberia died Monday, April 1, 2019, after suffering from many illnesses through the years. She was 63.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant.

Mrs. Liz will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery following the Mass.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday at Evangeline Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., and the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Liz, affectionately known as “Nana,” “Nanny,” “Mrs. Liz” or Mom, touched a lot of children’s lives. Her joy was being with everyone’s children, as she volunteered at Vacation Bible School, St. Edwards School, Nativity of Our Lady Church and with the New Iberia Senior High band.

Most of all was her four grandchildren Ivy, Flynn, Lilly and Simeon, as she lovingly referred to as “my babies.” Mrs. Liz said she loved “taking care of them and teaching them all about their Catholic faith and loving them like my own. These children were truly a blessing to me and were my four children I never had.”

Mrs. Lancon enjoyed music and playing cards. She was a member and Past President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary where she received the Lady of the Year award in 1994. She was also a member of KC Council 3425, the national Association of Retired Federal Employees, Member of the VFW Auxillary Post 1982, member of the Sister of Blessed Sacrament (Sr. Katherine Drexel) and was a Eucharistic Minister at Mass and for the shut-ins.

Survivors include her stepsons Hansel “Boo” Lancon Jr. and wife Debbie and Jonathan “Redd” Lancon and wife Jamie; her step-son-in-law Willie Messenger; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Junius Granger Jr., Gene Granger and wife Sissy and Olan Granger and wife Sheryl; and four sisters, Mary Franks and husband George, Barbara Landry, Necia Prosper and husband Merlin and Helen Collier and husband Ronnie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel Lancon Sr.; her step-daughter Jada Veronica Lancon; a step-granddaughter and her godchild Ariel Elizabeth Lancon; her godchild Lisa Maturin; and her parents, Junius and Eunice Copp Granger.

Pallbearers will be Hansel Hulin, Christopher Webre, Keith and Kenneth Lancon, and her grandsons Flynn and Simeon.

Honorary Pallbearers are George Franks, Merlin Prosper, Ronnie Collier, Junius, Gene and Olan Granger.
