Area golfers finish in top 10 at state golf tourneys
LAFAYETTE — Loreauville’s Drake Hoffpauir followed up Monday’s 5-over 77 with a 4-over 76 Tuesday for a total of 153 and an eighth-place finish at the Boys Division III State Golf Tournament held at The Wetlands.
In his first appearance at the state tournament, the LHS senior finished 12 strokes behind state champion Eli Ortego from Ascension Episcopal, who finished with a two-day total of 1-under 141, beating second place finisher John Hayden Wood by one stroke on the 6,348-yard, par-72 layout.
Ascension Episcopal won the team title with a two-day score of 607, 25 strokes ahead of state runner-up University High, which won the team title in 2017.
Third place in the team title race went to Isidore Newman, which was state runner up in 2017.
Division II girls
YOUNGSVILLE — Catholic High’s Shrayon Thibodeaux could not make up any ground on the leaders after Monday’s round and finished Tuesday’s round with an 8-over 82 to finish the Girls Division II State Golf Tournament in sixth place with a two-day total of 162.
Academy of the Sacred Heart’s Cassidy Lambert won the individual state title in a playoff over first day leader Liza Lepeyre. Both finished with a two-day total of 151 but Lambert parred the first hole of the playoff and Lepeyre missed her par putt to force another extra hole.
Lacassine won the team title with a two day total of 308, nine strokes better than state runner-up Academy of the Sacred Heart-New Orleans.
Division IV Boys
CARENCRO — ESA’s Oliver Nickel and Alex Billead tried but couldn’t overcome St. Frederick’s Grayson Gilbert as the St. Frederick senior won the individual state title of the Boys Division IV State Golf Championships held at Farm d’Allie Monday and Tuesday.
Gilbert followed up Monday’s 73 with an even better 2-under 70 on the 6.516 yard, par 72 layout.
He won by 11 stokes over Nickel, who had a two-day total of 154 and Billeaud, who finished with a two-day total of 160.
St. Frederick’s won the team title with a two-day score of 659 while ESA, the two-time defending state champion in Division IV, finished with a team total of 701.
Hanson’s Patrick Cancienne finished in ninth place with a two-day total of 169 (85-84) and teammate Logan Rodriguez finished in 26th pace with a two day total of 194 (93-101).
ESA’s Sam Castille finished with a two-day total of 188 (94-94) while Matthew Pisani (103-105) finished with a 208 and Adam Trahan (119-96) finished with a 215.
