IPAC Shelter Dogs of the Week: Petey, Alfalfa, Darcy and Cleo
Iberia Parish Animal Control is offering reduced fee adoptions on dogs and cats. Fees, which are $35 for dogs and $25 for cats, include spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and microchip.
IPAC houses dozens of dogs, and manager Amanda Istre picked out four special canines for this week’s Shelter Pets of the Week.
Petey, an eight-month-old puppy, was found by the shelter staff in Jeanerette. He had been left for dead, bound by heavy chains along with two siblings, one of which has been adopted.
“Petey has had a rough start to life, but he’s as sweet as they come,” said Istre, who added that he is fully-grown at 21 lbs. and is heartworm negative.
Alfalfa, who was found with Petey, is also heartworm negative and weighs 25 lbs. He has a shiny black coat with a tiny white stripe on his forehead and is also heartworm negative.
Darcy is a two-year-old 35-pound terrier/lab mix who is heartworm negative and has a ton of personality.
Cleo is an eight-month old puppy who Istre describes as “a petite girl who weighs 20 lbs. She is looking to be someone’s lap buddy, loves attention and enjoys baby talk.”
Adoption fees, which often run up to $100, are waived for military personnel and senior citizens (60-plus).
IPAC will host its first ever Howl-o-Ween costume contest at Jeanerette Main St. Mercantile on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 AM. There will be a kid’s costume parade, cake walks, sweets raffle, face painting and raffle baskets.
Entry fee is $5 with all proceeds going towards the IPAC Volunteer Fund, which helps the shelter pay for health certificates, Proheart shots and transportation of animals to out of state rescue organizations.
Please call or visit the shelter on weekdays from 12 PM to 3 PM to set up a meet and greet with a pet. 3373646311. IPAC is located at 2017 Seaway Access Road in New Iberia.
