Shelton J. Polk Sr.

LOREAUVILLE — A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Shelton James Polk Sr., 51, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Onegube, celebrant.

He will await the resurrection in All Saints Cemetery in Loreauville, with military honors.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday at Fletcher Funeral Home from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. where a Rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. by the Legion of Mary and Our Lady of Victory Altar Society.

A resident of St. Martinville and native of Loreauville, Shelton passed at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019, at his residence.

Shelton was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He served his country, enlisting in the U. S. Army and receiving an honorable discharge.

He leaves to cherish his fond memory his wife, Loretta F. Polk of St. Martinville; one son, Shelton Polk Jr. of Baytown, Texas; three daughters, Danae Polk of Washington, Cierra Haney of Port Arthur and Shanika Brown of Baytown, Texas; brothers Stanford Polk (Tremia) of Sugarland, Texas, Joseph Polk Jr. (Melissa) of Pensacola, Florida, and Jonathan Polk (Tameca) of New Iberia; four sisters, Sharon Willis (Lloyd Jr.), Jocelyn Polk of Loreauville, Theresa Gittens of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kathryn Williams of Killen, Texas; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Vital-Polk; his father, Joseph Polk Sr.; one sister, Sandra Polk; maternal grandmother, Alma Anthony-Vital; maternal grandfather, Robert Vital; paternal grandmother, Hattie Archangel; and paternal grandfather, Yancy Polk.

Active Pallbearers are Shawn Caviness-Brigman, John Doucet, Preston Fontenette, Roger Marcel, Kenneth Morgan and Joshua Provost.

Honorary Pallbearers are Harold Davis, Clarence Lee, Sugarland Boys, Stephen Harmanson, Marcus Liggans, Kevin Tripeaux Sr. and Just Us Social Club members.
