Alma Bourque Delcambre

A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Alma “Une” Bourque Delcambre, age 91, at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 11, 2019, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Garrett Savoie officiating.

Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a Rosary being led by the Men’s Rosary Group at 7 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Delcambre passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Alma, better known as “Une,” started working at the age of 13 bottling Hadacol. She later worked at Estilettes and Trappeys but stopped working to marry and raise a family. Alma was a kind and caring woman who loved her family. She enjoyed every moment spent with family and especially enjoyed family gatherings around the holidays where she could cook for everyone. Alma was a faithful and devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She would often walk to church, an activity she greatly enjoyed. She was a member of the CFMA (Cajun French Music Association) New Iberia Chapter and enjoyed listening and dancing to French music and attending functions of the CFMA. Alma will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Rickey Delcambre and wife Rita of New Iberia, Kenneth Delcambre and wife Cathy of New Iberia, Larry Delcambre and wife Jackie of St. Martinville and Mark Delcambre of New Iberia; daughters Gail D. Broussard and husband John “Skippy” of Tucson, Arizona, and Susan D. Romero and husband Shelton of New Iberia; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vallys Jean Delcambre; parents, Ovignac and Arcile Dugas Bourque; brothers Ignace “Bell Yeaux” Bourque, Octave “Sue Sue” Bourque, Edias “Bee” Bourque, Avery Bourque and Lennis “Tee-Coon” Bourque; sisters Ada Gary, Mary Emy and Gladys “Toot” Maturin; and one great-grandchild, David William Wyatt.

Pallbearers will be Blake Romero, Beau Romero, Kenny Wyatt, Kebby Delcambre, Rickey Delcambre and John “Skippy” Broussard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Delcambre, Larry Delcambre, Mark Delcambre, Brandon Delcambre, David Wyatt, Shawn Delcambre and Shelton Romero.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heart of Hospice, especially to Mrs. Delcambre’s nurse, Julie, for their compassion and care. Special thanks also goes to Susan and Kristie who opened their homes to Mrs. Delcambre when she became ill.
