UPDATE: Three of four escaped inmates have been caught
FRANKLIN — All four inmates who escaped Sunday from a correctional facility in St. Mary Parish have been apprehended, St. Mary Parish Sherrif Scott Anslum announced late Monday.
Anslum said the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of local agencies and law enforcement authorities in Mississippi, captured the inmates who escaped from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.
Also Monday, Anslum said an investigation into the inmates’ escape revealed three deputies failed to follow proper security procedures as required. The deputies are no longer employer by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff said, noting he will continued to meet with staffers to ensure they follow procedures, which were identified, addressed and corrected.
According to SMPSO, William Deans, 40, was located in Morgan City during the early morning hours Monday, andJamie Scarbrough, 28, and Tanner Scarbrough, 18, were both found and apprehended by the Picayune Police Department in Picayune, Mississippi. The Scarbroughs remain there, awaiting extradition.
The remaining escapee Elias Todd, 24, who was being held at the correctional facility for theft of a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction of justice, theft, and criminal damage to property, was located at a residence in Berwick, according to Anslum, who said deputies followed up on a number of leads that led them to Todd.
A search warrant was obtained and the search resulted in the capture of Todd.
In addition to the capture of the four escapees, four other people were arrested as result of the investigation. Those arrested on charges of assisting escape were Brooke Mcmaus, 26, Bonita Federer, 49, Brandon Collier, 22, and William Haff, 37.
In a prepared statement, Anslum also thanked all the law enforcement agencies who assisted in the effort, as well as St. Mary Parish residents who provided numerous tips that assisted in the capture of the inmates.
Residents are encouraged to continue to provide tips on the escapee by contacting the Sheriff’s Office via social media or by telephone.
