Spencer signs with Ottawa

Former Westgate High and McNeese standout Diontae Spencer signed a one-year contract extension last week with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Spencer had a break out season in 2017 with Ottawa as the 25 year old caught 71 passes for 922 yards in his first season with Ottawa after spending the last two seasons with Toronto.

Spencer’s best game was against Hamilton last October when he was responsible for a CFL record 496 all-purpose yards in the Redblacks win.

During the 2017 season, Spencer had 929 punt return yards, 607 kickoff return yards and 260 yards returning missed field goals. He was the Eastern Conference’s nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. He signed with Ottawa as a free agent in February 2017.
