St. Martinville’s Travien Benjamin became a marked man after junior quarterback Markavon Williams had to be helped off the field with about four minutes left to play in the first quarter and St. Martinville nursing a lead of 7-0. Williams returned on the next series after getting medical treatment and played the rest of the game.

He guided the host Tigers to the BBSH 25, where the drive stalled and senior Dylan Wilmore drilled a 42-yard field goal two minutes into the second quarter to put SMSH ahead 10-0.

Breaux Bridge’s Tigers roared back six minutes later to cut the deficit to 10-7 as they turned to their own workhorse, senior Logan Bossier. Bossier carried eight times for 46 yards and capped the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run.

St. Martinville answered before halftime on Williams’ 17-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Kyron Comeaux at the 1:51 mark of the second quarter. Breaux Bridge blocked the PAT attempt and trailed at intermission, 16-7.

That drive was set up by senior cornerback Jayvion Mitchell’s interception of BBSH junior quarterback Cole Morgan’s pass on second-and-11 from his own 21.

After a scoreless third quarter, Benjamin carried six straight times for 32 yards, the last being a 1-yard scoring plunge up the middle to give the hosts and their happy fans a 23-7 lead over Breaux Bridge.

However, St. Martinville ran out the clock down the stretch, a drive that included a 46-yard burst by Benjamin.
