CHS No. 2 in rankings

The Catholic High Panthers baseball team opens the 2018 campaign on a high note as CHS was voted the No. 2 team in the state in the preseason polls from the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association that were released Monday.

CHS, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs last year, was right behind Division III state champion Riverside Academy, which knocked the Panthers out of the playoffs in a best of 3 series in the quarters.
Not point totals were released with the rankings.
Also in Class 2A, Loreauville High, which advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to state champion Sterlington, was listed in the other receiving votes category.
In Class 3A, Erath, which went to the quarterfinals last season as well, was 10th in the polls. St. Louis High opens the season in first place in Class 3A.
Westgate High, which also advanced to the quarterfinals last season, was listed in the others receving votes category in Class 4A where defending Division II state champion Teurlings was listed as the No. 1 team in the preseason.
In Class A, Hanson, which as upset by Ascension Catholic in th first round in Division IV last season, was also listed in the other’s receving votes category.

And in Class B, ESA, which went to the semifinals in Division V last season, opens the 2018 campaign in the others receiving votes category as well.
