ST. MARTINVILLE — Early voting continues in St. Martinville for two elections on the April 28 ballot.

Voters in the city are casting their ballot on whether to re-elect St. Martinville Mayor Thomas Nelson, who is in a runoff election against Melinda “Mel” Mitchell.

The two Democrats were the top vote-getters in the election on March 24. Nelson finished with 46 percent of the vote while Mitchell came in with 34 percent of the vote.

One other runoff election is on the ballot. In District 4, Juma Johnson is facing off against Janise Anthony for the St. Martinville City Council seat that was left open after former councilwoman Debra Landry decided not to run again.

St. Martin Parish Registrar of Voters Angie Durand said 474 St. Martinville residents have voted so far during early voting for the upcoming election. There were also 96 residents who had submitted a vote by mail, Durand said.

By closing time Wednesday, there were 116 in-person votes and 14 absentee votes, Durand said.

Early voting will continue during business hours until Saturday.  The St. Martinville Registrars office will be the only one in the parish open for the election.
