LAFAYETTE — Billy Napier and his staff continue to stockpile talent for the future.

The first-year UL Lafayette head football coach picked up two more verbal commitments for the 2019 signing class this past week which brings the Ragin’ Cajuns total to 10.

The latest to commit are local product Jax Harrington of Erath who committed on Monday, July 9, and Amir McDaniel of Pensacola, Florida, who made his pledge the day before Harrington.

Harrington (6-foot-4, 280 pounds) selected the Cajuns over fellow Sun Belt Conference teams South Alabama and UL Monroe, as well as Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech out of Conference USA and Kansas out of the Big 12.

Harrington is coming off a junior season in which he earned all-district honors for the third straight year. Harrington also placed fourth in the Class 3A shot put state championships held at LSU in May.

Harrington is ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and is the No. 71 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana.

In a post shared on his Twitter account, Harrington wrote, “I would like to thank God for all the blessings he has put into my life. I would to thank my Family for all the support and advice they have given me throughout this process.”

Harrington went on to thanks the community, his teammates, and coaches before wrapping up his post with “I am 100% Committed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette! #cULture, #GeauxCajuns.”

McDaniel (5-foot-10, 170 pounds), meanwhile, selected the Cajuns over fellow Sun Belt Conference teams South Alabama, Troy and Georgia Southern as well as Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee State out of Conference USA.

McDaniel is coming off a Class 5A All-State first-team honors season at West Florida Tech where he recorded 68 tackles and seven interceptions as a junior cornerback.

McDaniel is ranked as a two-star recruit by 247Sports and is the No. 220 cornerback prospect in the country.

The commitment of Harrington now gives the Cajuns five pledges from Louisiana prospects following E.D. White Catholic athlete Brandon Legendre, Archbishop Rummel quarterback Chandler Fields, Neville offensive tackle Logan Newell, McDonogh 35 safety Jaden Henderson and Chalmette High offensive tackle Nathan Thomas.

With six three-star commitments, the Cajuns currently have the Sun Belt Conference’s top-rated 2019 signing class and are now ranked 65th overall in the country.
