Catholic High’s Avery Guidry (No. 7) tackles St. Thomas Aquinas’ Earl Jackson (No. 5) during a game earlier this season. For the second straight week, the Panthers are ranked No. 6 in Class 2A in the latest LSWA football polls which were released on Monday.

Catholic High maintained its spot in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association statewide football polls, while St. Martinville rose one spot.

CHS (6-1 overall, 3-0 District 7-2A) stayed at sixth in Class 2A with its 68-8 victory over Loreauville on Friday. The Panthers have 65 points and are now solely in sixth place after being tied with Isidore Newman the previous week.

Catholic High will travel this Friday to take on Delcambre in a District 7-2A contest.

St. Martinville (7-0) meanwhile moved up to seventh in Class 4A after beating rival and District 5-4A foe Cecilia 50-18. The Tigers have 54 points in the 4A voting.

St. Martinville will play at Opelousas High on Friday in a District 5-4A game.

For the most part there was very little change at the top of the polls.

John Curtis, Edna Karr, University Lab, Notre Dame and Kentwood held on to the top spots in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A, respectively.

There are two teams from the area that are not ranked but are playing teams that are this week.

Loreauville (0-7, 0-3 District 7-2A) plays at Ascension Episcopal which is receiving votes in Class 2A.

Erath (2-5, 2-0 District 8-3A), meanwhile, is taking on Kaplan who is fifth in Class  3A.
