Cleco contract to be discussed at SMCC meeting on Monday

The St. Martinville City Council will meet Monday evening to vote on the final approval of a contract continuing CLECO’s role as the electric utility for the city.

In August, the council voted to opt out of its five-year deal with CLECO, instead opening the bidding process for other vendors.
The council decided in September to continue its contract with the provider after bids were received.
According to consultant Jim Poché, of Poché, Prouet and Associates, CLECO has tendered the most advantageous bid for providing wholesale electricity to the city.
The council will also discuss several items with regard to Safety and Zoning Administrator Shedrick Berard. Three agenda items are on the slate to be discussed, to include clarifying Berard’s employment status, his job duties and allowing him access to the city’s bank accounts.
Councilman Mike Fusilier is also asking for time to discuss drainage in the city as well as dog kennels.
The St. Martinville council will meet at 6 p.m. in the city council meeting room at city hall, 120 New Market St., in St. Martinville.
